Councillors delighted at Cloughmills success

ballymoney councillors have spoken of their delight that a community project in Cloughmills won £60,000 funding in the People’s Millions competition.

Mayor, Cllr Ian Stevenson (DUP), led the praise at the monthly meeting of Ballymoney Council.

He said: “I was delighted to learn of the success of Cloughmills Happiness Project, Peas and Love, in the Peoples Millions annual phone voting competition last week.

“For almost two years Cloughmills Community Action Team has been developing the Incredible Edible project and Council has played a key role in encouraging this local community to explore the potential to make Cloughmills a more sustainable community, where people feel safe and valued and where emotional and physical needs are met.

“This recent award of almost £60,000 will enable the further roll out of this exciting project. Very well done Cloughmills and thanks to all those in the community who supported them and voted for them,” said Mayor Stevenson.

DUP councillor John Finlay said the scheme was a credit to the area and those involved had “led the way”. He praised all those who took part, including Council staff.

Sinn Fein councillor Cathal McLaughlin said Cloughmills deserves the congratulations and DUP councillor Jason Atkinson also congratulated the village on the success.

Cllr Evelyne Robinson (DUP) praised the vision shown by turning a piece of unused land into something which has brought acclaim to Cloughmills and she said all those involved had shown “a great amount of stickability”.

DUP councillor Frank Campbell said Cloughmills has achieved a lot in a short time and he said he used up his quota of phone calls in support of the People’s Millions phone in.

SDLP councillor Harry Connolly also praised the success in Cloughmills.
