Councillors discuss new parking proposals

A new waiting time could be introduced at Lansdowne Car Pak in Portrush.

At a recent Environmental Services meeting members were asked for their views on proposals by the Department of Regional Development to restrict parking at a number of locations in the Borough.

A maximum stay of 12 hours is currently in place at Lansdowne, however members agreed on a proposal to the extension to 24 hours.

At Circular Road in Castlerock, it was proposed to introduce a ‘no waiting at any time’ parking restriction on Circular Road with its juction with Sea Road. The purpose of the restriction is to prevent overflow vehicles from the nearby golf club using the stretch of road. The restriction on the south side would extend for 15 metres from Sea Road and on the south side from a distance of 140 metres from Sea Road. Members rejected the proposed restriction on the south side for a distance of 140 metres.

In Strand Road Coleraine, members did not agree with a proposed ‘no waiting Monday to Saturday 8am to 5.30pm’ restriction on the west side of Strand Road. Councillors felt that it would prove problematic for residents.
