Councillors discuss transport with Foyle Street bosses

LONDONDERRY public transport was under discussion at a special Translink “meet the managers” event attended by local councillors in Foyle Street Bus Station recently.

The event gave local representatives an opportunity to meet local Translink employees, hear about recent developments and raise any issues concerning public transport.

Translink’s Western Area Manager, Simon Corrigan, said it was a useful platform to help focus attention on local services.

He commented: “We were delighted to welcome local representatives, give them an opportunity to meet our teams and provide an update on Translink’s latest developments We provide essential transport services which benefit the local community, facilitate economic development, and enhance the quality of life of everyone.

“This event was an opportunity to demonstrate the important role we play in touching our passengers’ lives whether we are bringing them to work, college, shopping or other destinations every day.

“Despite challenging times, we are carrying around 80 million passenger journeys every year and customer satisfaction is at an all time high.

“We want to build on this by continuing to enhance our network and services. To ensure we keep getting it right for our customers we want to work together with all our stakeholders so we can continue to attract even more people on board.

“We have produced a short ‘Let’s go together’ publication clearly outlining our recent achievements and proposed future steps that we believe will deliver attractive, integrated, sustainable and good value public transport.

“Translink plays a vital role right at the heart of our cities, towns and villages and we hope that local representatives will carefully consider this important ‘Let’s go together’ publication especially as we move into a busy political year during 2011,” concluded Simon.
