Councillors for Somme Pilgrimage

TWO councillors will represent the borough at the 2011 Somme Pilgrimage next summer for the 95th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme.

The decision was taken at last Monday night’s October meeting of the local authority on the proposal of Cllr Davy Tweed, seconded by Cllr Beth Adger.

Both those councillors spoke out on the importance of the borough being represented at the event and spoke against a previous verbal agreement amongst members in the council chamber that there would not be attendance at next year’s Somme Pilgrimage.

Put to the vote, it was agreed by a majority that two councillors would be nominated with the names decided after the 2011 local government elections.
