Councillors join the fun at Parkview

LISBURN’S Deputy Mayor, Councillor Margaret Tolerton and Chairman of the Leisure Services Committee, Councillor Thomas Beckett, had a chance to join in the fun at Parkview Special School’s Summer Activity Scheme, which took place over the summer holidays.

The Council has been a strong supporter of the summer scheme at school and has provided financial support to the South Eastern Education and Library Board for the scheme. The school is a special school and offers education to children from 4 years to 19 years.

Mrs Gillian Pierce, Head of Department at Parkview and Teacher, said: “We run the Summer Activity Scheme for the children every year and it is truly inspiring to see how much enjoyment they take from two week-long activities. We are very glad to see Cllrs Beckett and Tolerton visit the school and would like to extend our appreciation to Lisburn City Council for its continued vocal and financial support.”

The Deputy Mayor added: “It was one of the sunniest days there has been in a long time last week and it was great to see the children outdoors enjoying themselves. They were also enjoying face-painting and the treats of a magician and I really enjoyed seeing the children have a good time. I wish the school every success and hope it goes from strength to strength.”

Mr Beckett said: “It is very important that Parkview Special School continues to thrive and grow. It offers a great educational service to families with children who have special needs, with specialised caring staff and it is a warm and friendly place to be. The Council has continuously supported the summer scheme at the school and we were delighted to accept the invitation to visit the fun day. I wish to commend Mrs Pierce and all her colleagues for the amazing work they do.”
