Councillor's praise for Lisneal College pupils

LONDONDERRY UUP Alderman, Mary Hamilton, has congratulated all students in the city in attaining such a high level of performance in A- Level examinations.

“Having had family members and knowing many young people in the position of waiting for examination results on which so much hinges these days, I am pleased that so many have done well and trust that they will obtain the university places which they seek, as they embark on preparing for their future.

“Many of these will be going to universities outside Northern Ireland and I hope that once they have gained their third level qualifications they will bring their expertise home.”

Mrs Hamilton, who is a member of the Board of Governors at Lisneal College expressed herself very pleased with results obtained at the college.

“I have been speaking with members of the Senior Management team and in what has been a difficult year for the college, pupils, parents and staff can be assured that they have delivered for themselves and the community.

“I was delighted to learn that the college obtained 100% Grade A* - C in Business Studies and Moving Image Arts. No one can do better than this.

“To add to this, the college obtained commendable results in a range of subjects like Health and Social Care, History, English Literature and Music. A new course introduced to cater for those pupils who would find 3 A levels demanding, has proved highly successful. The result of this is that pupils have obtained places to study at Queen’s University, University of Ulster, England and Scotland.

Knowing that our young people can do so well, we must now ensure that they continue to have the choices which they seek at AS and A level within the ethos of Controlled schools which is the choice they have made,” concluded Councillor Hamilton.
