Council’s 100k play boost for Portrush

COLERAINE Borough Council has invested in £100,000 of new equipment to ensure that high quality play facilities are provided for children in the Portrush area.

In a statement this week, Council said: “This action followed a recent survey of recreational facilities in Portrush which concluded that the play parks located at Dunluce and the Recreation grounds did not meet the required standards for public use.

“Following the assessment, the older equipment was removed and improvement work commenced immediately. Coleraine Borough Council regrets that both parks are closed at present but it was not possible to keep them open in an unsafe condition.

“New play park equipment will be installed at both the Dunluce play park and at the Recreation grounds in Portrush. It is expected that all work will be completed by mid-June 2013, giving Portrush two much improved leisure facilities.

“Council apologises for the inconvenience caused to its residents and visitors during this construction period, but the safety of children in the borough is always paramount in its decision-making.
