Councils are urged to team up in bid to promote cliff path

The Sinn Fein man believes tourism managers across the two local authority areas should be brought fully up-to-speed on the £7m Islandmagee facility, which he described as “integral” to the Causeway coastal route.

He added: “The Gobbins is a major attraction and it is important that both Mid and East Antrim and Causeway Coast and Glens borough councils fully capitalise its potential in order to draw in as many tourists as possible.

“Staff at tourist information centres are vital in getting the message out that the Gobbins is a fantastic place to visit. Tourism managers from places along the Causeway coastal route, such as Cushendall, should be given a tour of the Gobbins so they can learn more about it and relay that information back to the public.”

Mr McMullan said he has been in touch with the chief executives from the two authorities, urging them to take a partnership approach over the issue.

“It is in the interests of both councils that we keep people visiting the Causeway tourist trail,” he added.
