Council’s support for Hearty Lives project

Mid and East Antrim councillors have agreed to support the local Hearty Lives team into next year.

The project originally operated in the predecessor Carrickfergus Borough Council area, supporting the development of new and effective ways to tackle obesity, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, and improve heart health.

It had a particular focus on women of child-bearing age and families with young children.

Speaking at Monday night’s meeting of the Operational Committee, chairman Councillor Andrew Wilson said: “I’d like to congratulate the Hearty Lives project team as I understand they recently picked up an innovation award from the British Heart Foundation.”

Members agreed to approve the continuation of the current in-kind support arrangements, such as staff and office accommodation, until June 2016 and to authorise staff to explore opportunities to extend the project throughout Mid and East Antrim.
