Country Comes to City launched

The event which took place on Friday, December 10, saw five club members, Gordon Crockett, Jemma Gamble, Joel Eakin and Lynne and Emma Montgomery represent at the City Hotel.

Country Comes to City 2017, which is now in its fourth year will be held in Ebrington Square.

Starring some of Ireland’s top country stars Derek Ryan alongside Lisa McHugh and Barry Kirwan, this is a fundraising event for Institute Football Club in conjunction with Marie Curie and City of Derry Young Farmers Club.

At this years Country Comes to City event the headline acts will be appearing on Saturday, July 1 2017 when the audience will be treated to six hours of country music.

City of Derry Young Farmers Club are very privileged to be asked to help out at this event and are one of the two chosen charities along with Marie Curie. The club will be selling tickets soon and they are priced at £20.

City of Derry Young Farmers were founded in 1961 with the help of Mrs Pam Robinson (nee McConnell) from YFCU headquarters. The benefits of the association are still as worthwhile as they were those 55 years ago. Members still enjoy the fellowship of other members with similar interests; they still have an opportunity to work with others in a team gaining confidence and leadership skills and still having fun whilst doing it.

The club is still as active as it was all those years ago with many successes recorded including public speaking, silage making, pig judging and sheep judging and club members still take an active part in competitions today, with over 10 members competing in Public Speaking this year and over 30 members attending club stockjudging competitions.

Club events and activities have included quizzes, sports nights, discos and games nights; not to mention the various competitions which have included ploughing matches, interclub stockjudging and silage making. Throughout its 55years, City of Derry YFC have raised thousands of pounds for different charities through a variety of fundraising activities.
