Couple assaulted by man armed with knife and hammer

Police are appealing for witnesses to the assault in Sloan Street in the early hours of Saturday.

The 51 year old man and 25 year old woman sustained multiple injuries after they were attacked by another couple at the front door of a house at twenty past midnight.

The male victim was set upon by a man armed with a hammer and a stanley knife. It’s understood he was struck several times to the head and face with the hammer and kicked while on the ground. The knife is not believed to have been used.

The female victim is understood to have been pulled along the ground by the hair and had her head hit off the ground a number of times by a female assailant.

Police arrested a 22 year old male and a 16 year old female in the Hillsborough Road area a short time later. They have since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
