Couple went to shop with the intention to steal - court told

A couple went into a shop in Lurgan with the intention of stealing goods, Craigavon Magistrates Court heard last Friday.

Conor McCartan (20), whose address was given to the court as Drumbeg, Craigavon, admitted the theft of items valued at £22.42 from the Spar, William Street.

The other defendant, a female, accepted a police caution and the charge against her was withdrawn.

The court heard the couple were seen entering the shop and put items into a shopping bag before leaving without paying.

Police went to their address and found a number of items but they were not fit for re-sale.

They admitted they had gone into the shop with the intention of stealing.

A barrister representing McCartan said he had a couple of dishonesty matters on his record.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, adjourned sentencing until March 11 so that a pre-sentence report could be obtained.
