Course on forthcoming Centenaries

Organised jointly by Moyle District Council Good Relations Programme and Ballycastle Church Action, the Course will be facilitated by the Rev Dr Johnston McMaster and Dr Cathy Higgins of the Irish School of Ecumenics. They will lead participants in a re-examination of what they describe as ‘The Decade of Change and Violence 1912-22.’

Dr Gordon Gray, on behalf of Ballycastle Church Action, says, “It is hoped that as well as church members, those in the general public with an interest in the political, cultural and business life of the community will come together to begin thinking towards the forthcoming Centenaries.

This Course will explore the interaction of faith and politics, of Church and State, in the history of a hundred years ago and its continuing legacy. We hope that some newly-elected Councillors will find time to attend, since the issues involved will ultimately need to be addressed in the Council Chamber, in furthering ‘Good Relations’ over the coming Decade”.

Beginning last Tuesday 10th May over the following weeks subjects to be addressed are: Covenant, Guns and Militarised Politics (17 May),

Rising, Blood Sacrifice and Equality Deferred (24 May), The Somme, Slaughter and Sectarianised Memory (31st May) An Irish Parliament and a War of Independence 7 June) and ending with Partition, Civil War and Legacy (14th June)

Generously funded by Moyle District Council Good Relations Programme and The Community Relations Council these evening events are offered free to all-comers, beginning at 7.30 each evening.
