Court gives Loughgiel man a 'bald tyre' warning

A LOUGHGIEL man who is now on nine penalty points has been warned in court that if he has so much as a "bald tyre" he will be banned from the road.

District Judge Richard Wilson was speaking to 34-year-old James Gillan of Shelton Road at North Antrim Magistrates Court in Coleraine on Friday.

The defendant was given three penalty points and fined 75 for speeding and fined a further 60 for absence of a seat belt.

The offences were detected on July 2 this year at Coolkeeran Road, Loughgiel.

The defendant, a part-time farmer and shop manager, was doing 57mph in a 40mph zone.

A defence solicitor said his client had been visiting his mother and was only going to his own home and “stupidly” he wasn’t wearing a seat belt after he “chanced it” given the short distance.
