Court house could be kept open - claim

Mid & East Antrim Council's Chief Executive is working with the NI Law Society on potential ways of keeping Ballymena Courthouse open, councillors have heard.

An update report to members at their April monthly meeting stated that the Law Society share Council’s concerns about the borough wide impact of the Justice Minister’s decision to close the courthouse in the summer.

It also revealed that following a request from councillors the previous month that their Chief Executive Anne Donaghy explore the potential for a judicial review of the decision, Mrs Donaghy subsequently discussed the matter with the President, Chief Executive and Ballymena Chair of the Law Society.

Councillors were also told that discussions with the Law Society also considered options around exploring and developing a further vision for the future use of the building.
