District Judge Mr Copeland commenting on the fact Wilson had originally intended to contest the charges, said, “this man has caused a lot of trouble over this case from day one.”

Mr Byrne said on the night in question his client was out with a friend who had recently lost a young son. He said Wilson was one of a few friends who had gone out to “keep an eye” on this friend.

Mr Byrne added, “This individual was still grieving and was consuming alcohol in the street when police approached him.

“Mr Wilson asked could he remove the individual.”

Wilson was released on continuing bail.
