Dromore man believed he was covered under his employer’s trade motor insurance policy

A Dromore man has been fined and given penalty points for driving without insurance.

Paul Shields, 44, whose address was given as Cambric Court in Dromore, appeared before Lisburn Magistrates Court charged with using a motor vehicle without insurance.

The court heard that on July 1, 2025 at 7.50pm police on mobile patrol at Bridge Street in Lisburn observed a white Mercedes C220.

Checks showed there was no insurance for the vehicle.

However, checks with AXA showed that the defendant was not insured by the trade policy to drive his personal vehicle.

A defence lawyer told the court that the defendant was in the process of transferring the vehicle over to his employer and that it would have then been covered by the insurance policy.

District Judge Rosie Watters imposed a fine of £250 and six penalty points.
