The police called at the address of the last registered owner of the vehicle and the defendant stated that he was aware he had hit another car and drove off because he didn’t have any insurance for the vehicle.

Defence barrister Peter Coiley asked the district judge not to impose a custodial sentence in the case.

He continued: “He is in full time employment and is supporting a family. He appreciates the bother he had been getting into.”

During sentencing, District Judge Rosie Watters told the defendant: “Your record is shocking.”
