Maghera man (58) accused of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm upon male
A 58-year-old South Derry man has been sent for trial accused of assaulting another male.
Christopher O’Kane, from Gortinure Road in Maghera, faces a charge of unlawfully and maliciously inflicting grievous bodily harm upon the male on June 28 last year.
During a preliminary enquiry at Magherafelt Magistrates Court on Wednesday, the court clerk asked the accused if he understood the nature of the charge against him and he replied that he did.
He replied “no” when also asked if he wished to say anything in answer to the charge, or tender a written statement of evidence that could be used at his trial.

A lawyer for the Public Prosecution Service said the accused has a prima facie case to answer.
District Judge Conor Heaney released O’Kane on bail until his arraignment at Londonderry Crown Court on May 13.
Mr Heaney made it a condition of the bail that the accused does not have any direct, or indirect, contact with the alleged injured party.
