When District Judge Michael Ranaghan asked if there was a language barrier, Tan’s solicitor said his client is ‘actually an interpreter’.

Charge one was read to Tan, that she unlawfully assaulted a man on September 5 of this year. A second charge, that on dates between February 26 and September 5 this year, she engaged in a course of behaviour that was abusive to this man, was also read to the defendant.

She said she was aware of the charges. A PSNI constable said he was familiar with the facts and circumstances of the case and could connect the accused to the charges.

Tan’s solicitor said there was no issue with the connection.

A prosecutor said she was seeking a four-week adjournment: “Counter allegations have been made and we have been asked to seek time for further statements and investigations.

Tan’s solicitor asked for a longer adjournment as he had just given the investigating officer a lot of documents from the defendant.

District Judge Michael Ranaghan released Tan on strict court bail of £300 which includes that she not have any contact with the complainant either directly or indirectly and not to enter a certain area of Portadown.

The case was adjourned until December 18.
