'˜Cowardly' break-in at Moneymore school condemned

Local Assembly Member, Ian McCrea, said a window at the back of St Patrick’s Primary in Moneymore was smashed and a television stolen from the premises.

The DUP MLA issued a statement on the incident, and referred to a number of burglaries of businesses in the Moneymore area in recent weeks.

“I am acutely aware of the recent rise in number burglaries of businesses in the Moneymore area, most recently the Turkish Barber on Moneymore main Street”, Mr McCrea continued.

“Now we are faced with an altogether low when last night (27 Jan) shortly after midnight, cowardly thieves under the cover of darkness targeted St Patrick’s Primary school by smashing a back window to gain entry and steal a television. It is not yet known if any else was taken, but these events have to stop and the perpetrators brought before the courts.

“To target businesses is indeed a low act, but to target and steal from a school and the children that attend that school is beyond words.

“In light of recent events, I have been in discussions with the Police to organise a meeting between local businesses in Moneymore and the Police to try and aid them in protecting their properties and livelihoods.

“I would encourage anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behavior or vehicles last night in the area of St Patrick’s to come forward to police and help them in their investigations.”

A spokesperson for St Patrick’s PS in Moneymore told the MAIL they did not wish to make any comment at this stage.
