Crackdown on daytime deliveries to Bow Street

THE Roads Service is to crackdown on deliveries to businesses in Bow Street during the day.

The rules allow vans and lorries in the pedestrian zone between 6pm and 11am, but the Roads Service says recently there has been 'a dramatic increase in the number of delivery and collections' outside these times.

This, they say, "is disrupting the shoppers and other pedestrians as they go about their business".

So from next week they have warned traffic attendants will be taking enforcement action.

In a letter to traders the Roads Service said: "By restricting traffic, including deliveries, during core shopping hours the full benefits of our pedestrianised shopping area can be realised: namely a relaxing and enjoyable shopping area visitors and shoppers will want to return to again and again.

"You may be aware that Roads Service has now provided new traffic signs in Bow Street to help communicate this to all users.

"To allow everyone to become familiar with the new signage and traders / suppliers to make arrangements to comply with the restricted hours, a settling in period is being applied before enforcement of these restrictions commence on 1st July.

"From the 1st July 2010, Traffic Attendants will take enforcement action as necessary if they detect vehicles parked in contravention of restrictions in the Pedestrian Zone."
