Craft extravaganza this weekend

A JAM-PACKED craft bank holiday weekend in Londonderry is in store at the Craft Village!

Bringing August Craft Month to a close, Derry City Council together with Craft NI and SEEDs, will be hosting several events of making, eating and tales in poetry and prose, across the entire weekend.

You are invited to discover the exciting world of the Craft Guerrillas, at Café del Mundo. Relax and enjoy making your own wondrous craft pieces in the up cycling and fascinator making workshops and hear the Craft Guerrillas share tales of how they banded together to create a collective and their other sister groups in England and Scotland.

The aim of the Craft Guerrillas is to join forces with other creative individuals and set up craft events in vacant or unused venues. With sister armies in Brighton, East London and Edinburgh, the Craft Guerrillas will give an insight into their manifesto: “The Craft Guerrilla Army is taking on the world for a better hand made existence! “We’ve had enough of soulless, mass produced tat and so has the average consumer.

“The Craft Guerrilla was born out of a shared idealism with regeneration, recycling, sharing of knowledge and the revaluation of the hand made movement at its heart.’

“.......we hope you like what we do, our philosophy and our manifesto so much that you will want to set up your own Craft Guerrilla army in your area...”

The cottage in the Craft Village will have a POP up Bedlam Market and Fair Trade crafts shop, come see the intrigues and curiosities which make treasure and great finds! Furniture, retro clothes, and delicious ethnic fare!

The Open Mic event presents a wonderful opportunity to get heard and share your song or simply sit back and be entertained by musicians, story tellers and poetry performances.

Organisers Derry City Council urge anyone interested in taking part in the Craft Guerrillas workshops to reserve their place as numbers are limited.

“This is a really exciting event to bring August Craft Month to a close. We hope that all local crafters from beginners to enthusiasts and experienced makers will come along and share stories and ideas with the Graft Guerrillas to help spread the craft revolution!

“Everyone is welcome, advance booking for workshops is advised and it’s important to extend special thanks to all those who have attended and organised wonderful events throughout August Craft Month. It is great to bring it to a close with a fabulous celebration event which looks to keeping the craft revolution moving along!” a spokesperson said.
