Crafty young people at the Guildhall

Organised to mark the close of Derry City Council’s highly successful Craft Development Programme, the event also showcased newcomers who had not previously participated in the Guildhall Craft Fair traditionally in November, which has run for the past 20 years.

The craft fair included 40 exhibitors selling a range of hand-made crafts including ceramics, textiles, knitwear, wood, glass, prints as well as some artisan food products. But it was the demonstrations that were highly popular and brought some of the crafts to life, with children and adults trying their hands at all manner of colourful projects inluding Margaret Crabtree’s Japenese paper flower lilies and felt brooches Audrey Doherty Millinery demonstrating how to make silk flowers that she uses in her millinery, Elsie Tweed, of Leona Cregan, who demonstrated weaving on her loom and Flossie’s Fudge, with Debbie Leslie showing a short film of how to use her hand-made fudge in desserts, while Fiona Doney demonstrated the craft of basket making using locally-sourced willow.
