Officers came up with a number of events for council ratification, the biggest of which would be a fireworks display.

The money to cover the event would be sourced from council reserves.

The total budget to implement the draft celebratory event proposals in their entirety is £50,599 with an option for an additional fireworks event at a cost of £25,000.

Officers were delegated with meeting to discuss and propose a draft list of events which would celebrate the ‘legacy’ and ‘achievements’ of Craigavon Borough Council over the years. The list came before the mid-monthly meeting of council last week.

Events, most of which would take place in March, included a battle of the bands, a celebratory concert in the Mayes Hall, a vintage tea dance, an open mic night, a reception for officers with more than 40 years service and for former mayors, members and CEOs, a history exhibition, a schools competition and a legacy publication.

There were also plans to make a video of staff and members lip syncing and dancing to a popular Christmas song and a further video diary of the symbolic handover from Craigavon to the new ABC council.

The ‘MAIL’ understands that the proposed events would be free and would be on a first come, first served basis.
