Gavin John Treanor (36), Deans Grange, Craigavon, admitted being in charge of vehicle with excess alcohol on September 26. He was fined £150 and given 10 penalty points.

The court heard that at 4.30am in the car park at William Street police found Treanor lying in the front seat.

His speech was slurred, his eyes glazed and an evidential test gave a reading of 97.

His solicitor said Treanor, who had recently come out of bankruptcy, had suffered from alcoholism for five years.

He added that it was something he had tried to address and had completed a 12 week programme.

The solicitor said the incident was a ‘one-off relapse’ after he had been made redundant but he found employment at a call centre. He said Treanor was now back attending AA meetings.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said Treanor had no previous convictions and no points on his licence but it was a relatively high reading.
