Craigavon playgroup awarded for top service

Staff from Little Acorns Playgroup receive their accreditation at the Early Years ceremony in Belfast.

The playgroup, which is based in Craigavon, had its work recognised at the recent 50th birthday celebrations for Early Years, the organisation for young children.

Little Acorns Playgroup was among 22 early years services who were acknowledged during the event for providing quality service to young children and their families.

Mrs Margaret McGuigan, who was a member of the initial assessment team when the quality assurance programmes began 25 years ago, presented 17 Pre-School Playgroups, four Day Nurseries and one After-School with a plaque commemorating their achievement.

Early Years believes that quality assurance schemes provide a route for leaders and managers to raise standards through a process of self-evaluation or self-assessment.

This involves a cycle of continuous improvement in which the provision is audited against a set of criteria or standards.

Strengths and areas for improvement are identified, an action plan is developed and implemented, and progress is reviewed.

Early Years congratulates all services for providing this high quality standard.
