Crashed into garden

A DRUNKEN man who crashed his car into a garden was banned from driving for 18 months last Thursday at Craigavon court.

He was 39-year-old Ciaran McElkenny, Avenue Road, Lurgan, and he was also fined 350 for the offence on May 23 last year.

The court heard police found a car half in a garden and half on the footpath at Hazelgrove Avenue in Lurgan. The front nearside wheel was missing.

They called at the defendant’s address but there was no response. Then they saw him at the side of the property. He had to lean against a wall for support.

McElkenny was arrested for being unfit and a blood test gave a reading of 94 - the legal limit is 80.

A solicitor for the defendant said he had been drinking at a neighbour’s house and went to move his car from the back of his house to the front.

He lost control of the car, hit a kerbstone and crashed. He then panicked and left the car.
