‘Creating Craigavon’ booklet launched by outgoing Mayor

In one of his final engagements as Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Colin McCusker launched the ‘Creating Craigavon’ booklet at Brownlow Community Hub.

The booklet, supported by Brownlow Festival Committee and funded through Craigavon Borough Council’s legacy fund, tells the story of the design evolution of Craigavon New Town from the early years to present times.

“I would like to congratulate all those involved for producing such a high quality document which highlights the development of Central Craigavon in a unique and striking way. The launch event is doubly significant as tonight marks the last evening of Craigavon Borough Council, and this year also marks the 50th anniversary of Brownlow as an entity” said the outgoing Mayor.

The launch was attended by community groups in the Brownlow area, PLACE NI who led the preparation of the publication and council officers. Two design professionals who worked for Craigavon Development Commission in the early 1970s also attended.

Copies of the publication are available from reception at Brownlow Community Hub and at the Craigavon Civic and Conference Centre.
