It will look at ways of using silk in Carnival and Community events, such as making colourful flags and banners that can be used within a Carnival parade or used to dress an event area and also the techniques used to dye the fabric, such as direct painting and batik painting.

The workshops will take place on Thursday the 20th of May and Friday the 21st of May 2010 from 10am to 5pm each day at the Gasyard Arts Factory.

The Arts Council of Northern Ireland, National Lottery Fund and Derry City Council support and core finance this project, so we are able to offer this unique training for the nominal cost of 25.00 (full fee) or 10.00 (concession).

There are also a limited number of bursaries available. Please contact Helen Harley, Carnival Development Officer to book a place by either Tel: (028)71365151 or email: [email protected]. Places are limited, so to avoid disappointment we advise early booking.
