Creative pupils’ festive greetings

INVENTIVE pupils from Newbuildings Primary School have enjoyed being on the ‘big screen’ this festive season.

Their creatively altered pictures flashed up at various locations within the Whitehorse Best Western Hotel and on two giant screens in one of the hotel suites over the Christmas holiday season, in moving animated images designed by the pupils themselves.

The Newbuildings pupils, who are in form P7B, used programming software to prepare Christmas wishes and videos for guests and visitors to the hotel.

The principal, Christ Scholes, said: “The children in Primary 7B used programming software called Scratch to compose their videos and Christmas messages. These videos are now shown throughout the hotel and on the two large projections screens in the Willsboro Suite.”

The hotel’s general manager, Keith Baldrick, presented meal voucher prizes to two children, Connor Ferguson and Macauley Spence, for their winning design using Scratch programme software.

The software generates animated images which the children can marry with their photographs, creating bespoke images for screens.

“The pupils really hope patrons at the Whitehorse Hotel enjoyed their videos and Christmas messages over the holiday season,” said Mr Scholes.
