According to a new study commissioned by American cable channel HBO, who produce the hit Game of Thrones series, one in four adults choose where to go on their next getaway based on their favourite TV show or movie.

The Causeway Coast and Glens area is third in a list of 30 film and TV destinations adults most want to visit.

The news comes as filming finishes in Ballyboley forest for sci-fi blockbuster Morgan, produced by legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott and directed by his son Luke.

The movie stars Fantastic Four actress Kate Mara.

The A36 Shane’s Hill Road was closed at Killylane for two days last week for filming of a chase sequence, and the derelict Cairndhu House off the Coast Road is also being used as a location.

Locations which have achieved on-screen fame on Game of Thrones are Magheramorne Quarry, which doubled as The Wall and Wildling village Hardhome; Cairncastle, which was transformed into the North of Winterfell; and Slemish, which became the Dothraki Grasslands for the fantasy epic.

The Dark Hedges near Armoy, Downhill Beach, Ballintoy Harbour, Cushendun Caves and Murlough Bay have also enjoyed profile boost.

Tourism Northern Ireland’s director of product development, Laura McCorry, stated: “We are absolutely delighted that the Causeway Coast and Glens has been placed third in the list of film and TV destinations adults most want to visit.

“It comes as no surprise to Tourism Northern Ireland that the Causeway Coast and Glens has been placed in the top three of this list.

“Thanks to Game of Thrones, Northern Ireland’s stunning mountains, forests, lakes and countryside are now familiar to millions of people around the world,” Laura added.

, having helped create the magical backdrop that much of the show’s action is filmed against.

“It is an absolutely stunning part of the world with rugged landscapes, breath-taking scenery and a fascinating history of myths and legends and also offers visitors lots to see and do along the route.

“Whilst the scenery is amazing onscreen, there is nothing like seeing the stunning sights for yourself and we look forward to continuing to welcome TV viewers from around the world in the years to come,” she concluded.
