Crematorium plan: Council in talks with potential private sector partners

Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council has confirmed that it is hoping to be in a position to move forward with plans for a crematorium development at Ballyearl within the next couple of months.

The local authority is currently searching for a private sector partner for the £5m project, which has met with considerable opposition from local residents living in the vicinity of the proposed site opposite the Courtyard Theatre.

“The procurement process to appoint a private sector partner to design, build and operate a new crematorium on the Doagh Road is under way. This includes a dialogue phase with bidders which has commenced. It is anticipated that the process will be completed by early summer and a report presented to the council,” a spokesperson said.
