Police received a report that a local woman had been called by a man offering to fix her computer. She was asked to log onto a particular website and was given a serial number to use. The local resident declined to get involved.

The scam is an increasing problem. Allowing remote access to a computer can result in damage being caused to it, and confidential private and financial information could be compromised and used for criminal purposes.
