Crime-busting team of St Brendan's take on vandals

The project is spearheaded by the PSNI and rmagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Policing and Community Safety Partnership (PCSP).

This closely resembles that of Neighbourhood Watch-which is considered to be a most successful crime prevention partnership between local communities and law enforcement agencies.

It is based on the principle of local communities keeping a watchful eye on their local school with a view to reducing crime in and around school premises.

As with Neighbourhood Watch, signs are placed in prominent areas around the school to highlight the fact that local residents are keeping watch and looking out for their local school.

The primary aim of the initiative is to tackle the scourge of vandalism and criminal damage which has plagued local schools, particularly during the summer holiday months.

The pro-active pupils of St Brendan’s will be involved in delivering letters to households in the vicinity of the school to encourage them to keep an eye out for anything unusual or suspicious around the school.

Plus they will emphasise the importance of reporting any suspicious activity they notice on school grounds to the PSNI.
