130 people arrested

IT has been revealed that 130 people have been arrested in the last month by police in Foyle.

The arrests relate to those failing to appear at court or breaching their bail conditions, and the arrests have been made following the launch of Operation Relentless at the start of October.

Officers have executed over 300 warrants and made hundreds of curfew checks. The public have also assisted in this operation following the publication of the images of 15 people police wanted to speak to in relation to ongoing criminal investigations.

Inspector Jon Burrows said: ”Our focus has been on warrants relating to more serious and persistent offenders and those people who are trying to evade the criminal justice system. Those who fail to appear at court costs millions of pounds to the criminal justice system, as well as delaying justice for victims of crime.

“As well as working closely with our colleagues in An Garda Síochána and in England and in Wales, this operation complements the work your officers do every day in partnership with the community to reduce overall crime in the Foyle area and make our city safer for everyone.”
