Alderman condemns thosebehind station burglary

DUP Alderman Gary Middleton has condemned those behind a burglary at a filling station in Newbuildings in the early hours of Saturday (February 1).

Mr Middleton claims the burglary was the latest in a series of incidents at the Victoria Road premises.

Police in Londonderry confirmed they were appealing for information after the burglary was reported.

Shortly before 3.20am, it was reported a sum of cash was stolen from premises in the area. Enquiries are continuing.

Deputy Mayor Gary Middleton said: “I have been contacted regarding several break-ins at the Spar Filling Station, Victoria Road, Newbuildings.

“In the past week there have been a total of three attacks on the shop.

“The damage to the roof, CCTV system and electrics as well as the theft of some valuables have caused much disruption to the business.

“I condemn those behind these latest attacks and appeal for anyone who has any information to bring it forward to the PSNI.”

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the burglary or who has any information to contact police at Strand Road on 0845 600 8000. Or, if someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details, they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
