Appeal for information after 'paramilitary-style attack' in Larne

Police are appealing for information following a report of a suspected 'paramilitary-style attack' in Larne last week.

Detective Sergeant Lyttle said: “Police received a report on Wednesday (June 24) that a 19-year-old man had been assaulted by a number of masked men armed with baseball bats in the Linn Glen area of Larne on Tuesday, June 23.

“It was reported that the man had been in the Larne area when a number of males ordered him to get into a vehicle. From here they drove to the Linn Glen area of Larne where there was two masked men armed with baseball bats waiting for him.

“They assaulted him before leaving the area, the male managed to make his way home and was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

“A 37-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to cause grievous bodily harm with intent.

“They were both released on bail pending further enquiries.

“This was a vicious and brutal assault, which we are treating as a paramilitary-style attack at this time. We must all work together to bring those responsible to justice and stop this from happening to anyone else.

“We are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have witnessed the incident, or has information they think could assist this investigation, to contact police on 101, quoting reference number 354 24/06/20.”
