Detectives in Foyle made the appeal after two masked men entered the premises in the Central Drive area at around 8.30pm.

A PSNI spokesman said it was reported that two masked men entered the premises, one armed with a handgun. A member of staff was threatened during the incident, but was not injured. It is believed that the men made off from the premises with a sum of money. Police enquiries are continuing.

One of the males is described as being approximately 5 feet 8 inches tall, slim build and was wearing a ski mask with cut out holes for their eyes and was wearing a black leather jacket. The other male who remained at the front door of the premises was also wearing a ski mask and is described as being slightly taller and wearing a padded coat.

Meanwhile, SDLP Foyle MLA Mark H Durkan has hit out at those behind the robbery saying: “I want to condemn those behind the robbery at the bookies at Central Drive in Creggan this evening who subjected staff to a terrifying ordeal.

“This is the fourth such robbery in recent days at bookies shops in the area and is a worrying development. This must have been a very traumatic experience for staff who have been working hard over the Christmas break.

“I would urge bookies and other businesses to exercise vigilance and be mindful of security arrangements particularly at this time of year.
