Arrests made

POLICE who responded to a security alert in the Ringfort Road area of Londonderry at 5.15am on Thursday morning last, June 2, have made an arrest in connection with the incident.

Arising out of the incident a 23-year-old man has been charged with obstruction after the incident.

He is due to appear at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Monday, June 27.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “A device was thrown at a house in the area. Approximately 20 homes were evacuated as the area was cordoned off. The device was later declared a hoax and the residents of the evacuated homes were able to return at approximately 7.15am.

“Two arrests were made. A 23-year-old male was arrested for obstruction and money warrants. A 26-year-old male was arrested for criminal damage and possession of an explosive device.”
