Arrests made following Newtownabbey burglary

Police made two arrests after a number of incidents in Newtownabbey at the weekend.

A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of offences, including burglary and attempted burglary (dwelling).

A second male, aged 17, was arrested on suspicion of offences including burglary, attempted burglary, aggravated vehicle taking causing damage to the vehicle, dangerous driving and failing to stop for police.

Detective Sergeant Lyttle said: “The arrests follow reports of attempted burglaries and burglaries in a number of areas in Newtownabbey on Friday (April 17) and the early hours of Saturday, April 18, including in Abbeycroft Road, Glenville Road, Bleach Green Avenue, The Old Mill and O’Neill Road.

“A vehicle - a blue Seat Ibiza- was reported stolen from the Bleach Green Avenue area at around 1.30am on Saturday. The vehicle was later recovered in the Dargan Road area.

“I want to appeal to anyone who saw any suspicious activity, or suspicious persons, in any of these areas between 10.30pm on Friday and 2.50am on Saturday to get in touch with us.

“I would urge anyone who may have captured dash cam footage they believe is of the car reported stolen to contact us on 101, quoting reference number 2441 of 17/04/20 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

A PSNI spokesperson confirmed on Sunday, April 19 that both males have been released on bail, pending further enquiries.

Meanwhile, during Friday night and Saturday morning, a PSNI spokesperson said: “Two males were stopped for drug offences in Kings Parade and a teenager was stopped for numerous driving offences in the Monkstown area. Our dog unit also stopped another male in the Greenisland area on suspicion of going equipped for burglary.”
