Assaulted officer

A LURGAN man was fined £150 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for assaulting a police officer.

He was 27 year old Patrick Curran, Silverwood Court, Lurgan

As well he was fined £75 for resisting a constable, fined £60 for disorderly behaviour and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The offences took place on June 24 in Church Place, Lurgan, where the defendant hit an officer on the side of the head and resisted when arrested.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said Curran had been out socialising and had taken far too much alcohol.

District Judge, Mr Alan White, said Curran had only one previous conviction and he could deal with the matter without ordering a pre-sentence report.
