It was also discovered that she had armed herself with CS gas for her protection and had a BB gun in her car.

Ausra Baltramaitiene, Mourne Road, Lurgan, was convicted of assault occasioning actual bodily harm on June 13 this year, possession of a prohibited weapon, a can of CS gas, possession of an imitation firearm and driving without insurance at Sloan Avenue in Lurgan.

For the assault and the possession charges she was sentenced for four months in prison while a three month term was imposed for no insurance. All the sentences are to run concurrently. A six month driving ban was also imposed and the judge ordered forfeiture of her car.

Mr Conor Downey, representing the defendant, said his client had now come to her senses and given an honest account to the probation officer.

He said her behaviour on his occasion was completely unwarranted and it was pure luck the injuries were not as serious as they could have been.

District Judge, Mrs Bernie Kelly, pointed out that the defendant said she had the spray for her own protection and she wondered why someone would need to arm themselves with a dangerous chemical. She also had the BB gun in her car.

Judge Kelly went on to say that Baltramaitiene then entered a child’s playground and in the presence of other parents, teachers, other ancillary staff and children deliberately attacked a female and then drove off.

Later in the court the defendant was released on her own bail of £250 to appeal against the sentences.

Conditions of the bail are that she is not to enter school playgrounds and she must have no contact with the injured party by any means.
