Brian Joseph Patrick White of Ennis Close in Lurgan is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to local Sinn Fein activist Matt Rooney on July 27 this year.

The 38 year old’s solicitor said White is a member of a local club and would like permission to have his bail varied so he could watch football there.

However a constable told the court there were concerns and that it was a ‘grey area’.

One of his bail conditions is that he is not to be under the influence of alcohol in a public place.

The request was denied and White was released on conditional bail of £500.

He is not to contact Mr Rooney as part of the bail conditions.

The case was adjourned until January 3 for a preliminary enquiry.
