Bail revoked after Apprentice boys event

In February Jason Trevor Devenny (27), originally from Harkness Gardens, had been granted bail to live at an address in Coleraine after he was arrested on suspicion of burglary and attempted grievous bodily harm.

On hearing the case the District Judge, Ann Marshall, refused to grant bail when she heard evidence from the officer who arrested Devenny on August 10, who told the court that he had reviewed CCTV evidence. This showed that the defendant had in fact been at the Simon Community premises at Bond’s Hill, where he had been attempting to make contact with the alleged injured party in the case. A resident of the Simon Community told police that Devenny had arrived at around 6.15pm. He had been highly intoxicated and had asked him to assault Blaithnaid Kenny on his behalf after he discovered that she wasn’t there. Kenny reported the incident to police when she returned to the hostel the next evening.

When spoken to, Devenny told police that he had no recollection of whether he had been at the Simon Community or not.

District Judge Marshall said that breaching the no alcohol condition of Devenny’s bail was enough to remand him in custody until he appears in court on September 3.
