Ballybriest take Ulster Pipe Band title

A LOCAL pipe band has taken the top title in its grade at the Ulster championships.

Ballybriest Pipe Band won the 3B Grade title at the prestigious competition held at Dungannon Park last Saturday.

Congratulating the members on their success DUP MLA Ian McCrea said: “I was thrilled to hear that yet again a Mid-Ulster band has returned home with silverware from the Ulster Pipe Band Championship last Saturday.

“Ballybriest Pipe Band topped Grade 3B and this comes on the back of winning the British Championship just over a month before.

“Again the hard work has paid off with a winning performance and I wish Ballybriest every success for the rest of the season.”

Another local band, Tullylagan Pipe Band, came runners up in its grade.

Cookstown UUP councillor Trevor Wilson extended congratulations to both.

Councillor Wilson said: “I extend many congratulations to Ballybriest Pipe Band on becoming Ulster champions at the weekend and also to Tullylagan on finishing runners up.

“With the World Pipe Band Championship being held this Saturday in Glasgow I would like to wish all local bands all the best as they attempt to win the worlds.”
