Ballyclare residents hospitalised after assault by armed intruder

A man and woman were injured by an armed intruder during an aggravated burglary in the Ballyeaston Road area of Ballyclare this morning (Friday).

Police say shortly before 12.25am, it was reported that entry was gained to a house by an unknown man.

Detective Sergeant Lorimer said: “A man in his 50s and a woman in her 40s , who were in the house at the time, were both assaulted by the man who was armed with a weapon.

“The man received injuries to his ankle, arm and face whilst the woman received injuries to her face. Both were taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries

“It was also reported that a silver Seat Alhambra was stolen from the property and was later found burnt out on the Deerpark Road in Larne. Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service attended and extinguished the fire.

“Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding this incident and police would appeal to anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in the area to contact detectives on 101, quoting reference number 33 of 18/09/20.
