Ballymena: Man’s jaw fractured in ‘hate crime’

Detectives are investigating a suspected hate motivated assault at Lamont Park playing fields, Smithfield at around 3pm on Friday 11 July.

The injured man was walking alone in the area when he is thought to have been assaulted by three men who were unknown to him. The man was subject to sectarian insults during the attack, which is being treated as a hate crime.

The three attackers are described as speaking with local accents.

One is said to have blonde hair shaved both sides and flat on top. He is of medium build, 5’ 11” in height and was wearing a Liverpool top.

The second also has fair hair, shaved on the sides and flat on top. He is of medium build, 5’ 11” in height and was wearing a light blue t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms.

The third man is tallest of the three at around 6ft in height. He has brown hair which is also short at the sides and flat at the top.

The injured man made his way to the carpark and dialled 999 for help. He was taken to hospital by ambulance and was treated for fractures to both sides of his jaw.
