Brother’s plea to find hit and run driver who hurt his sisters

Conor Murphy said his sister Oonagh had sustained ‘horrific life-changing injuries’ and has pleaded with anyone who knows about the incident to contact the police.

Fiona (25) and Oonagh Murphy (28) were cycling less than a mile from Scotch Street when a dark coloured car came driving past and hit Oonagh sending her flying off her bike.

Oonagh, who is a young doctor and due to start work at Craigavon Hospital soon, was badly injured.

Conor said: “My sister sustained horrific life-changing injuries (damaged nervous system, broken bones, deep lacerations, etc) on Saturday night 7:41pm 27th June.

“They were smashed into at high speed by a hit and run driver on the Moy Road, Portadown at 0.7 miles past the Scotch Street filling station, heading towards the Moy.

He said Fiona was left unconscious in the middle of the road with blood pouring out of her head, face and body.

Conor said other cars who were in the area have been eliminated however police would like to speak to the driver of a Vauxhall/Opel Astra G (Approx 1998-2004) which is black and with five doors.

The car has a broken left wing mirror which was laying at the scene and the car has potential front left body work damage. It has silver wheel trims or alloys.

Conor has posted photos of the car he believes may have been involved in the incident on his Facebook page.

Conor believes the car was seen on the Garvaghy Road ten minutes before the incident at 7:31pm near the entrance to the Public Park and it then made its way up the Garvaghy Road then onto the Moy Road.

“The driver indiscriminately smashed into the girls, who were cycling in single file in a safe manner five metres in front of the other, on a flat wide straight part of the road with no other obstacles and no oncoming traffic,” said Conor.

“The driver of the car then slowed down briefly to look the carnage they created behind them then sped off towards Moy,” he said.
