Burnt out car and fly-tipped waste being removed in Newtownabbey

Items including planks of wood and piping were dumped in the region this week.

A burnt out car was also discovered in the area.

Commenting on the issue, a spokesperson for the local authority said: “The council has received a report of waste dumped in the Boghill Road area and a clean-up team is removing the material.

“If members of the public see incidents of fly-tipping they should report these via the council online portal which can be accessed through the website. We are also aware of a burnt-out vehicle in the area, and arrangements have been put in place for its removal.”

The waste was reported to the council by Mallusk SDLP representative, Heather Wilson.

Heather said: “Aside from being an eyesore, fly-tipping poses a real danger to drivers as well as to walkers and runners who enjoy these routes daily. We are not talking about one or two bags of rubbish, but rather heaps of household and commercial waste are regularly being dumped on the sides of our roads.

“It was also extremely concerning to find a burnt-out vehicle. Whoever set this car alight has no regard for the community.”
